The Indonesian nickel pig iron project has been receiving market attention, while another product similar to nickel pig iron, which came out in 2017, has not received the "attention it deserves". The product name Feni Luppen, is a nickel intermediate produced by Russian investors in Indonesia. According to the enterprise forecast, by 2019 its output will gradually increase to about 200000 nickel tons, at present, there are domestic stainless steel plants to buy trial. If production goes smoothly and steel mills have a high degree of acceptance, the supply situation in the global nickel market will be significantly reversed.

March Imports and Exports of Hydrometallurgy Intermediate Products

According to the latest data from SMM Customs, imports of SMM hydrometallurgy intermediate products in March 2026 reached 171,240 mt in physical terms, up 37% MoM and up 1.4% YoY. By country, the main incremental volumes this month came from hydrometallurgy intermediate products imported from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and New Caledonia.
